The Bitter Sea.

The cursed land of Genocise is lashed by a cold and angry sea known as the Bitter Sea, sailors call it The Biter. The cliffs of the land are in constant warfare with the waves of the Biter struggling to maintain their integrity against the constant onslaught of water.

Those who are old claim that it was not always so, they claim that legend speaks of a rich and bountiful water that nourished and cared for the inhabitants of the land, providing fish and enabling travel that benefited the whole of Etaria; if not Caenyr. Traffic between the port of Chail Anden and the islands west of Genocise was frequent and prosperous; Tyrania also sent vessels of trade round the cape of Genocise stopping in the city of Kry’djrak to barter. The elders say that when the curse came it made the sea angry, and that she now wishes to wash the land clean of its evil pollution.

The seabed is filled with hulks of trading ships laden with gold and precious materials but few dare to attempt their recovery and fewer still live to tell of these attempts. The sea creatures native to these waters are ferocious and large. They are well fed by both the ships lost and the carrion thrown into the sea by the Dark Knights. Many have acquired a taste for the flesh of man and, combined with the frigidity of the water, the life expectancy of any unfortunate enough to be thrown, or jump, from the cliffs is virtually nil.

There are still brave souls who make the journey by sea around the south of Etaria, experienced sea dogs who know the tides and tricks of ‘The Biter’. The Dark Knights also have ships, dark evil vessels in which they travel for nefarious purposes. But overall the Bitter Sea is one of the most inhospitable and inclement waterways in the whole of Caenyr.
