East of Lake Adona and north of the Tu'lan river lays the forest of Woodhome. Within the forest is a small, self-sufficient community of humans, elves and half elves living in peace with each other and the Wood. They are the descendents of refugees from the wars of succession after King Kedeach was assassinated. Their remote home has forced them to be a self-sufficient and fiercely independent people. Fear outsiders has led them to shun the villages and towns outside of Woodhome and look only to one another for support and aid in times of scarcity. But over the years the community has grown to fill the forest and the more adventurous youths are beginning to leave Woodhome in search of the cities their histories refer to, cities like Talanon, Athkalta, Dungart and the magnificent Chail-Anden.

For centuries the Woods and its inhabitants thrived in the sheltering shadow of a giant, ancient oak. Its great limbs arched out over the lesser trees of the forest like a mother hen sheltering her chicks. Its branches sheltered birds and small animals of dozens of species. Its root system harbored dozens more. Its acorns provided food and its fallen branches provided fuel for the peoples who live in the forest. To the Wood's inhabitants this tree was a person, as much as any two or four-legged person in the forest. She was Mother Oak, the Matron of Woodhome forest, and she lives no more. A careless adventurer allowed his fire to get out of his control and a large section of the forest has burned. It was the end of a very hard dry season and the trees were weak from lack of water. Even the Mother Oak was weak, and she was right in the center of the conflagration.

The population of Woodhome can no longer live in isolation. Without the Matron famine looms large in their fears. Now the adventurous souls that were once scorned are seen as the community's best hope of survival. A call has gone out for the brave and the daring. The time has come for the people of Woodhome to return to the mainstream of life in Etaria.
