A Brief Look at the Tome of the Ageless
By Brannon 'Pageturner' Grethots, Scholar of Lantorm's Gate

"There are those who walk among you, traversing the mortal lands as feign representatives of our kind. You call them half demons, you scorn their flesh, their blood, their being. We are no half demons, we are the forefathers, the root of such beings which plague you, the beginning and end of demon kind in this realm as we see fit. We are the masters, the seven, those whom have embraced chaos and from it gained wisdom. We are às'Aonais Linn'cinneadh, we are The Ageless Kin." -Riochdachail d'Guth, introduction to the 'Tome of the Ageless'.

Whatever can be gathered from the presence of demonic beings in our land one thing is certain, these creatures are fueled and driven by chaos. However from imp to balor it has been observed that when not in servitude they oft hold little ambition or desire beyond that of chaos and destruction. Is this the way of the demon, a being spawned from the depths of hellish planes solely to wreak havoc and sow the seeds of chaos? The Tome of the Ageless tells us otherwise.

"There is wisdom in chaos, one must learn to embrace and control it. Those who are not strong enough are destroyed by it, and thus know nothing but to destroy. The outstanding majority of our kind are taken by such a fate, but we who rise above find powers previously unimaginable at our disposal."

Who are the 'we' described? What are 'The Ageless Kin' referred to in the book's introduction? Good questions, with incomplete answers. As best as this scholar can gather, amongst the few demons which have reached the state described by the passage above, there are seven who have truly mastered it. They consider themselves forefathers, implying either that they are literal ancestors of the traditional demon kind that we know of, or that they have simply been around a lot longer. The latter of these explanations falls better into place, as we have uncovered pieces of forgotten history which correspond to the being and actions of some of these creatures. They consider each other to be kin, brothers and sisters if you will, and are able to communicate on emotional levels over vast distances.

"The Ageless Kin are never apart, for physical distance cannot strain the bond we share. As we are seven we are one, inescapable with no desire for release. When we call them our lessers flock to us in servitude, need speaking to us but only their true name and we are aware of their entire being."

I will attempt to do justice to the author's original descriptions whilst keeping these brief biographies informative and concise.

às'Aonais Linn'cinneadh - The Ageless Kin

Riochdachail d'Guth - Voice of All Kin
"We stalk these soils with intentions none but our own. As demon we traverse on lonesome paths, but as the ageless we are bound as kin. Just as we are apart, we are together; just as we are seven, we are one. The Voice does not speak for all, The Voice speaks for the one, and when he should speak the world nay turns deaf ear."

a'Dubh Dio'barachan - The Dark Wanderer
"Ever restless, never still, wandering this world leaving seeds of chaos in her wake. A lustrous tempt of will, calling upon Caenyr's desires, producing what spawn she would have to please her, abandoning their weakness to the harsh world. Always seeking, never satisfied, always hungry, never fufilled."

Treig Te'grimeach - The Ever-Forlorn
"Past, present, future... these are of no consequence. Having gained power and insight to see beyond time, yet not the ability to convey his visions to his kin, he knows all but can speak of none."

Fearann'fas Sluig - The Desert Devourer
"An ever-reminder of our beginnings, of us he communes most deeply with the utter chaos within, yet of us he least manipulates its wisdom. Settling in amgonst the flourish, draining, devouring all life around him, spreading his thirst consuming all but the strongest."

Ce'ardach Buain - Reaper of the Forge
"Tall tales told at the bedsides of dwarven children speak of a creature so unspeakably devious as to steal the very spark of inspiration from the minds and souls of the best smiths in the land, harnessing them for her own hideously beautiful creations."

Talmhaidheachd Gach'ni - She of All Worlds
"In visions and dreams one might glimpse the woman whom when she walks the hills and rivers bow beneath her, granting her pass wherever she may stride. A transient of planes, she is everywhere and nowhere, everything and nothing."

Sgar - The Severed Heir
"A link to a forgotten past, once father as he is brother, a power not lost but shed to his brethren."
