The Emerald Wood vale is a small wooded valley that lies within the forests of the north, just south of the mountains bordering the Frozen North. The Emerald Wood is little known to the outside world, as the paths to it are treacherous, and there are easier passes to take through wilderness. Even if the hardiest of adventurers do pass through the Emerald Wood vale, they are seldom aware of its name or inhabitants.

The Emerald Wood is a dense temperate forest filled with emerald-green-leaved trees, despite its proximity to the cold mountains of the north. Often a cool, grey mist dances amongst the large silver-bark trunks. Because of its seclusion from the rest of Caenyr, the Emerald Wood has been a haven for various fey creatures. Fairies abound in the Emerald Wood and dryads are quite common, too. At one time, one could walk throughout the wood and constantly hear the singing of sprites. But, alas, the Emerald Wood is falling on dark times. Goblin populations in the surrounding mountains are approaching plague-like numbers, and they are encroaching on the Emerald Wood's borders. Orcs and other evil-natured creatures from the depths of the world can be increasingly seen roaming the vale, as well. Thus, the numbers of fey folk have dwindled. Where they have gone is anyone's guess.

Eliath Alessë is a small mountain elf community in the heart of the Emerald Wood. Nestled amongst the treetops of the tallest trees, Eliath Alessë is built using the beautiful silver wood from the forest. Wide platforms anchored to the living trees provide the foundations for elven buildings to be set upon. Hanging causeways connect each platform together, creating a contiguous elven community. In respect to Ath'endal'lynn and the forest, the elves disturb the natural forest as little as possible. The architecture of the buildings is also symbolic of the natural world, almost as if it always been a part of the Emerald Wood.

It is traditionally told that Eliath Alessë was founded after the terrible destruction of Mountainhome. The violent eruption and the rain of fire scattered many of the mountain elf clans. The survivors of the eruption wandered Etaria in search of new homes. Survivors from two clans, the Houses of Elloufin and Súrion, came upon the Emerald Wood. After surveying the land, they decided to call this mystical forest their new home. The elves went to work building structures as they had back in Mountainhome. They named the new community in honor of the two patriarchs of the founding clans: Eliath Súrion and Alessë Elloufin. The community grew as other survivors from Mountainhome came upon the Emerald Wood. Thus, the Houses of Feiniel, Carnesîr and Ancalimë joined the community of Eliath Alessë. Other elves "orphaned" from the eruption were also welcomed into the community and merged into one of the five Houses. And thus, the elves have lived in much the same way as they had in Mountainhome.

Elven life in Eliath Alessë centers on peace and harmony with the forest and the other natural inhabitants of the forest. Magic (divine and arcane), music, archery, and the crafting of magical artifacts are the principal professions in Eliath Alessë. The elves have little use for structured law, as they have a high sense of honor and loyalty to each other, which provides the elves with plenty of self-discipline and morality to live with little to no confrontation amongst themselves. The worship of Ath'endal'lynn, Cerestra, Verinia and Telmara is predominant in Eliath Alessë. The elven community has slowly grown in size from its founding, and even though some elves have different surnames, due to the rare outside marriage or the adoption of an "orphan" elf, all the elves of Eliath Alessë can trace lineage to one of the five original Houses. Due to the influx of evil creatures encroaching on the Emerald Wood, the mountain elves have begun to feel anxiety about the destruction and fall of their beautiful city. This has led the standing patriarch, Celegrion Elloufin, to found the path-wardens. The path-wardens are the standing guard of Eliath Alessë, and watch the Emerald Wood from high up in outposts built in the trees. Instructed in the art of archery, the path-wardens are trained to shoot evil creatures on sight. In this way, the sanctity and security of Eliath Alessë can be ensured. Creatures of unknown morality, such as the rare human adventurer, are usually spared unless hostile intentions are sensed.
