The following text is an excerpt from the Codices of Days. This event took place in the year 354 AL.

-+-

Only two nights ago, Charynis the Bronze sent word to the Council about the perils in the caves of Mount Chirdon in the Frozen North. The caves, domain of the Rathaorm Manticore Family seem to be under assault by a small Itheril army.
The reason for this is unknown.
I commanded the preparation of a contingent of our Holy Army to counter the assault.
A lot of Keepers who belong to the Dragon kind have volunteered. As the Manticores seem to be children of the god Draxil, those Keepers see it as their holy duty to come them to aid.
We will depart to the Frozen North in an hour.

-+-

We made our camp at the foot of Mount Chirdon. A dense mist cloaks our presence, but makes the terrain treacherous. The Manticore caves must be about a half day walk from here.
Ranger scouts have been sent to survey the situation.

-+-

The scouts have returned. They reported traces of a battle in front of the cave. Yet the Manticores withstood the attack and have reinforced at the cave entrance. The Itheril army has regrouped some distance from the cave, leaving a corpse filled field between them and the cave entrance.
Based on reports about the surrounding area of the cave, I will split our contingent in two groups and station them during this night at both flanks of the Itheril army. At sunset we will show ourselves and demand their retreat. Though knowing the Itheril, there is little chance they will do so.

-+-

Fourteen Keepers died today. As expected we barely got the chance to state our demands. The attack was quick, the battle fierce. They seemed to have a lot of priests of their Spider Queen goddess. As soon as the Manticores noticed what was going on, they left their caves and joined the fight, tearing the Itheril bodies apart, but refusing to eat their flesh.
No Itheril survived.
The head of the Rathaorm Family had participated in battle, and invited me and two officers to their lair. They we were informed about the reason of the assault.
Iogunas, Shaman of Draxil and long life friend and member of honour of the Rathaorm Family, half human and half Itheril, was engaged with a noble Itheril woman. Both took their refuge here in the cave. The Itheril got word of it and sought to unleash their anger by murdering not only the couple, but also the involved Manticore Family.
G'narr'thom, Head of the Rathaorm Family was very grateful and pleased with the presence of so much half Dragon Keepers. As a token of this gratitude, and bond between the Family and the Keepers, he handed us a sacred cloak.
The cloth of which it is made is heavy. It has a magnificent deep red color, with golden patterns. In gold, silver and blue, there is a drawing of a Manticore, a Dragon and a chalice.
We will pass the night here in the caves. Tomorrow we head back to the Holy City of Zenegral.

-+-

Something happened. When on the way back, in the midst of the dense mists, there was a sudden strong wind. The carriers, who were bearing the heavy wooden chest with the Cloak, fell to the ground. All eyes were turned to the chest when a Wolf, a Falcon and a Pigeon silently gazed at us from the top of it. The wind vanished as suddenly as it had come, and a deep silence surrounded us as the mists grew denser again. Not a word was spoken, yet an unknown, faint, muttering, crackled voice grew stronger as a strange old man, clothed in rags made his way to the Chest. As being stunned no one moved nor spoke. The Animals hurried away when the old man opened the lid of the Chest, and threw the contents of it on the ground, muttering something about "teeth". At that time, the mist grew even denser, until we were all like blinded.
Only moments after, the wind reappeared, moving the mists aside and opening the clouds above. Warm sunbeams filtered through the moving sky and fell on the Cloak, which was lying on the ground. Upon picking it up, everyone held his breath, as we saw that four drawings were miraculously added to the pattern of the Manticore, Dragon and Chalice: The wolf, the Falcon, the Dove and a Sacred Heart.
From this day on, we shall use these symbols to refer to our gods: The wolf, which is Tyllar's form; the falcon, Cerestra's; the dove, symbol of peace-Telmara-; and the sacred heart, for Shavista.
The Cloak shall be used in our Knighting ceremonies and High Priest consecrations.
